Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the main contrast in the table: dependent-child households were the largest category and declined, while lone-parent households increased from a low starting point. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear. The table begins in 1971, not 1970, and the claim that “one family house hold and couple shows no individuals” misreads the layout: the table gives figures for couple households, including 19% with no children and 52% with dependent children in 1971. The overview also refers to “seven” types without clearly summarising the main changes across them. To strengthen the response, report the correct years and compare the key categories accurately, including the rise in one-person and no-children households.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response with an overview followed by a paragraph beginning “Firstly,” and you use basic sequencing words such as “then.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because several categories and comparisons are combined in long, unclear sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “No children shows about 19%” moves abruptly to dependent children and then non-dependent children, making the relationships between figures hard to track. The final sentence repeats the general idea that proportions rose without specifying which types. Use separate sentences or a clearer sequence for the main categories, and make each comparison explicit. More accurate referencing and less repetitive linking would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “declined,” and “household,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “depent,” “None-dependent,” “alone,” and “portion.” There are also repeated, awkward phrases such as “by the time of period” and “individuals in household.” These errors sometimes make it difficult to identify the category being described. Aim for precise table language and consistent category names: for example, use “share of households,” “non-dependent children,” and “lone-parent households.” Check spelling carefully and avoid using “individuals” when the figures describe household types.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and frequent errors sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. Examples include “Overall, the seven house hold types … in different percentages,” which lacks a clear main verb, and “Lone parent have least portion,” where the subject–verb form and article are incorrect. Tense and agreement are also unstable in “One person household type have 6%” and “No children shows about 19%.” Punctuation is sometimes missing, as in “4%.Only.” Build accurate simple sentences first, using patterns such as “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% to 12%.” Then connect these with a limited number of correctly formed complex sentences.
