Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
PEOPLE IN HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE OF HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY
Student answer (Band 5.0)
according to the given chart, in early 1970s in Great Britain- lone parents were extremely less and the highest number of households were those with depenant children whereas the number of non depedant children was less too. if i compare this data over the years, couples with no children increased and there is a decreasing trend in couples with non dependant children too, reason being that people are more inclined towards family plannign and taking decisions carefully.
As we can see that one person households have increased in the modern times due to people not marrying young, from 6% to 12% the ratio has increased significantly. year 1991 has been a turning point in the decrease of one person households and increase in dependant children.
This entire chart summerises how different household types over the past 5 decades have evolved in the Great Britian due to a change in geenration and also the values of a society

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant patterns, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12% and the decline in households with dependent children, which fell from 52% to 36%. However, the response only partially summarises the table: it gives no clear, accurate overview of the main changes across all categories, and the claim that 1991 marked an increase in dependent children is incorrect—the figure continued to fall. The explanation about family planning and delayed marriage is not supported by the table, which reports percentages rather than causes. To strengthen the response, state the dominant trends clearly, compare the largest and smallest categories, and avoid explanations that the data cannot establish.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response begins with observations about the early period, then discusses changes over time, and ends with a general concluding statement. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and the ideas are not grouped into a well-defined overview and supporting comparisons. Phrases such as “if i compare this data over the years” and “As we can see” provide basic links, but they do not always clarify how the points relate. The reference to 1991 is especially confusing because it says dependent children increased, contrary to the table. Organise the response into a brief introduction, an overview of the main trends, and paragraphs comparing related household types; use linking phrases to show contrast and change accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “households,” “increased,” “decreasing trend,” and “ratio,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts difficult to follow. For example, “extremely less” is not a natural way to describe a small percentage, and “the ratio has increased” is less precise than saying the proportion doubled. There are also repeated misspellings, including “depenant,” “depedant,” “plannign,” “summerises,” and “Britian.” Use accurate terms such as “percentage” or “proportion,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for household categories would also help distinguish dependent from non-dependent children.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, such as “if i compare this data over the years, couples with no children increased,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences contain faulty or unclear structures, including “year 1991 has been a turning point in the decrease of one person households and increase in dependant children,” where the relationships between the changes are difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in the lowercase opening and “Great Britain-”. The final sentence uses a broad structure, but “due to a change in generation and also the values of a society” is not clearly connected grammatically to the reported data. Practise concise comparisons using accurate past-tense forms, parallel structures, and clear punctuation.
