Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: couples with dependent children were the largest category and fell from 52% to 36%, while one-person and lone-parent households increased. The figures for one-person households and couples without children are also reported correctly. However, the overview is unclear in “the lone parent childless couple and one person number is increased,” and the final discussion of lone parents is cut off, so this important rise is not fully described. The response also contains 129 words, below the required 150; this limits how fully you can select and report the main features. Develop the overview and complete the comparison of the categories, including the lone-parent figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph giving figures, and the categories are generally discussed in a sensible order. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and incomplete ideas. For example, “In contrat the lone parent childless couple and one person number is increased” is difficult to follow, while the final sentence ends at “started aro,” leaving the paragraph unfinished. Some transitions, such as “The living alone” and “The couple with no children,” do not connect smoothly to the data that follows. Use complete sentences, group the rising categories together, and use clear comparisons between them and the declining dependent-children category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “most common,” “gradually,” “declined steadily” and “percentage points.” This gives you a workable range for the task. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases sometimes make the meaning harder to understand: “illutrates,” “throuhout,” “contrat,” and “depenent” are examples, while “the number is doubled” and “closed at 36%” are not natural ways to describe percentages. The phrase “dependent figure” is also unclear. Check spelling carefully and choose precise terms such as “proportion” or “share”; use standard trend collocations such as “rose to” and “fell to.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the overview and a sentence tracing the dependent-children figures across several years. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. For example, “The couple with no children was at 19% in 1971 had gradually rose to 25%” combines clauses without a clear grammatical link and uses an incorrect verb form. “The living alone, one person started at 6%” also lacks a clear subject structure, and “the number is increased” has an incorrect passive form. Practise writing complete clauses with consistent past-tense verbs and accurate punctuation.
