Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad pattern that dependent-child households were the largest category and that their share declined, and you include several relevant figures. However, the overview is unclear and incomplete: it does not summarise the main changes across the table, such as the rises in one-person and lone-parent households and the increase in couples without children. Some comparisons are inaccurate or confusing; for example, 6% in 1971 was not the lowest figure overall, since lone-parent households were 4%, and 12% was reached by both one-person and lone-parent households. The response also contains only 145 words, five below the required minimum; the 22 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a concise overview and accurately compare the key trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has paragraph breaks and attempts to group information, first discussing one-person and no-child households and then the remaining categories. However, the progression within these paragraphs is difficult to follow, and the comparisons jump between years without a consistent sequence. Phrases such as “In the context of” and “In the conterst” do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas, while repeated “closely followed by” constructions make the account mechanical. Some references are also unclear, particularly “than one person had slightly increase” in the overview. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by two logically grouped comparisons, and present each trend in chronological order with precise linking language.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “dependent children,” “one person,” and “lone parent,” so the reader can identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling errors reduce clarity: “wheares,” “Dependet,” “decresed,” and “nin-dependent” are noticeable, while “slightly increased” is not an accurate description of a rise from 6% to 12%. “In the conterst” is also an unsuccessful attempt at a linking phrase. Use accurate trend vocabulary such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. This would make the description more precise and less repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Examples include “one person was lowest at 6%,” “In no children was increased,” and “dependent children was 52%,” where sentence structure and subject–verb agreement are faulty. Tense and comparison patterns are also problematic in “than in 2001 and 2007 was highest at 12%.” Most sentences rely on basic patterns, with longer constructions often becoming incomplete or awkward. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences, for example, “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% to 12%,” and use consistent past-tense reporting with accurate articles and prepositions.
