Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important trends, including the rise in one-person households and lone-parent households and the fall in households with dependent children. The figures of 6% to 12%, 4% to 12%, and 52% to 36% are accurate, and you attempt an overview. However, some reporting is unclear or inaccurate: “no children rate is 10 to 25 percent” gives the wrong starting value, which is 19%, and “one family households and couple remained unchanged” misrepresents the table. The overview also does not clearly rank the main features, such as the large decline in dependent-child households and the high but falling share of these households. Select the key comparisons more carefully and explain them clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview, and detail paragraphs, and phrases such as “overall” and “looking at the details” signal stages of the report. However, progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated: the increases and decreases are listed in the overview and then restated in the next paragraph. Connections between points are often unclear, particularly in “meanwhile 2000 show the up and down figure,” which does not explain what is being compared. Several sentence fragments and abrupt transitions also weaken the flow. Group the main increases together and contrast them with the declining categories, using clear links and avoiding repeated summaries.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children,” “lone parent,” “rate,” and “percent,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, making parts of the report hard to interpret. For example, “one person ratio” is less suitable than “proportion of one-person households,” while “go rose up” and “go to declined” are not natural ways to describe trends. “Significant difference’s” is also imprecise in this context. Aim for accurate trend language such as “increased,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to use both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Several sentences are incomplete or joined incorrectly, such as “The given table illustrate kind of great Britain: household and family. showing figures…” and “while one foamily house holds and couple remained unchanged.” Subject–verb agreement is also faulty in “the table illustrate” and “2000 show,” and tense and sentence construction are unclear in “one person ratio increase from 1971 to 6 percent to in 2007.” Punctuation and capitalisation further obscure sentence boundaries. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense verbs consistently when describing the table’s historical changes.
