Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies a relevant overall feature: households with dependent children had the largest share, while lone-parent households were among the smallest categories. It also reports several figures accurately, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 8% and lone-parent households from 4% to 6% between 1971 and 1981. However, the report is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence while introducing the comparison between couples with and without children, and it omits the key decline in dependent-child households from 52% to 36%. The overview is also too broad to summarise the main changes clearly. The response is 97 words, below the required 150, so it cannot provide sufficient coverage of the table. Include a complete overview and compare the major trends across the full period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview, and a paragraph beginning to report figures. Time markers such as “To begin with” and “from 1971 to 1981” help indicate sequence. However, progression is limited because the final sentence breaks off at “from 1971 to 1981 and,” leaving the comparison unfinished. The opening also promises to compare “both views,” although the table presents several household categories, which makes the focus unclear. Some information is repeated, particularly the date ranges, rather than being grouped into clear comparisons. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the main trends, and connect related categories in a logical order.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “household types,” “one person,” “lone parents,” and “dependent children,” so the topic is generally recognisable. It also uses percentage language appropriately when reporting figures. However, the range is limited and some expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “comparison in household types” and “both views.” Spelling and word-form errors in “great britian” and “dependant childrens” are noticeable, and “people household type” is not a natural description. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a more precise range for describing proportions and trends, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly relies on simple sentence patterns, with a limited attempt to combine information in longer structures. Some meaning can be followed, but errors in agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “dependant childrens was high” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “one person and lone parents in 1971 to 1981 one person was…” lacks a clear grammatical structure linking the categories and figures. The final sentence is incomplete, so its relationship between the categories cannot be understood. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and practise structures such as “the proportion of households with…” to report comparisons accurately.
