Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a limited attempt to describe the table, mentioning the rise in one-person and lone-parent households. However, the overview does not identify the main pattern accurately: it says household and family members are “living in the passage of time” rather than summarising the changes. Several important figures and trends are omitted, especially the decline in households with dependent children from 52% to 36% and the rise in couples without children from 19% to 25%. The claim that “one family households remains zero” is incorrect; the table gives percentages for its categories, not zero values. The response also says the couple category has only two further categories, overlooking non-dependent children. Select the main trends and report them accurately to make the summary more relevant and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then discussing some household types. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear, coherent progression. The overview repeats the vague idea of change over time without identifying what changed, and the discussion shifts from one-person households to an inaccurate statement about family households, then to lone parents. Connectors such as “On one hand” and “On the other hand” are used, but they do not show a clear contrast between the information presented. The sentence beginning “On one hand” is also difficult to follow because several ideas are joined together. Group related trends and use clear comparisons to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small range of relevant terms, including “one person,” “couple,” “lone parent,” “percentage,” and “category.” However, vocabulary is repetitive and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes the data description difficult to understand. For example, “the giving periods of time” and “the passage of time” are repeated instead of using precise language such as “between 1971 and 2007.” “Went up” is understandable but informal for an academic summary, while “bottom” does not clearly describe a percentage. Spelling errors such as “persent,” “incresing,” “continusely,” and “beggning” also weaken control. Use accurate trend vocabulary and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentences, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “the percentage incresing continusely” lacks a correctly formed verb, and “one family households remains zero” has an agreement problem and an inaccurate sentence structure. Tense and sentence construction are also inconsistent in “the percentage went up” and “now the passing of time the percentage went up.” Punctuation is unreliable, with missing spaces after commas and a run-on transition in “time. On the other hand.” Most sentences follow simple patterns, and the longer attempts are not controlled consistently. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense reporting consistently for the historical data.
