Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You cover the household categories and identify the dependent-children group as the largest, which is a relevant main feature. Several figures and trends are reported accurately: one-person households rise from 6% to 12%, couples without children reach 25%, and lone-parent households increase from 4% to 12%. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the main changes across the table. There is also a significant misreading: dependent-child households fall from 52% in 1971 to 47% in 1981, so they do not increase at first; by 2007 the figure is 36%, not “under thirty five to forty percent.” The non-dependent group is 9% in both 2001 and 2007. Prioritise accurate comparisons and state the overall rise or decline clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response follows a recognisable sequence, moving through one-person households, couples without children, dependent and non-dependent children, and lone parents. Words such as “firstly,” “secondly,” and “in last” help signal this order. However, the organisation is largely a list of categories rather than a clear overview followed by grouped comparisons. Some transitions are mechanical, and several sentences run together without clear punctuation, making relationships between time periods difficult to follow. For example, the discussion of dependent children shifts from 1971–1981 to 1991 and then 2001–2007 without a clean comparison. Begin with a concise overview, group the strongest rises and falls, and use complete sentences with clear punctuation and reference to the relevant years.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “household,” “dependent children,” and “same,” so the reader can identify the subject of each section. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “household people percentage.” Word choice and collocation are often inaccurate: “the dependent children contain the highest percentage” is not a natural way to describe the largest category, while “little higher” and “less increase” do not express the trends precisely. Spelling errors such as “britian,” “famliy,” “childern,” and “disscus” also make the writing less clear. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions and check spelling, especially for key table categories.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe changes over time and uses some longer sentence patterns, but most sentences rely on basic structures, and errors are frequent enough to make parts difficult to interpret. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “The given table illustrate” and “the table show”; articles and sentence construction are also problematic in phrases such as “the one person family members which was six.” Tense and clause control weaken the dependent-children description, where several time periods are joined without a clear grammatical structure. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, including missing spaces after commas and full stops. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses such as “while” and “whereas” to compare figures.
