Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant changes, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12%, the fall in dependent-child households from 52% to 36%, and the increase in lone-parent households from 4% to 12%. However, the overview is inaccurate: “one family households and couple does not change anything” is unclear and conflicts with the figures, since the table shows different one-family categories, not a separate couple total. The no-children category rises by 6 percentage points, rather than remaining unchanged. The response also omits key comparisons and is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the summary underdeveloped. Select the main trends accurately, distinguish percentage points from percentages, and support the overview with clear start and end figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an attempted overview, and further trend statements. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the progression is weak because the second and third paragraphs repeat or contradict one another: the claim that categories “does not change anything” is followed by a statement that no-children households increased. The opening overview also combines categories in a way that is difficult to follow. “While” and “On the other hand” provide some linking, but the relationships between the comparisons are not consistently clear. Group the rising categories together and the falling categories together, and use separate, focused paragraphs so each comparison follows logically from the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children,” “lone parent,” “increase,” and “decrease,” so the reader can identify the subject and several trends. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “change 8% of there household” and “household expend by 8%” obscure the intended meaning. “Change nothing” is also too informal and imprecise for describing stable figures. Spelling and word-form errors, such as “periode” and “there” for “their,” further reduce control. Use precise reporting expressions such as “rose by,” “fell from … to …,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to connect ideas using “whereas,” “while,” and “as compare to.” These attempts show some variety, but several sentences contain errors that make the relationships between figures harder to understand. For example, “one family households and couple does not change anything” has subject–verb agreement problems and an unclear structure, while “Increase in one person and no children household is 6%” lacks a clear grammatical subject and uses singular agreement for plural categories. The final sentence also has an incomplete comparison structure. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and plural agreement, and build comparisons with complete patterns such as “X rose from … to …, whereas Y fell from … to ….”
