PEOPLE IN HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE OF HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given table illustrates the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.
Overall, the percentage of one person and the lone parent increased continuously throughout the period. Moreover, the percentage of couple with no children increased while the percentage of couple with dependent or non-dependent children decreased.
Initially, there was a drastical decreased in couple with dependent children from 52 percent in 1971 to 36 percent in 2007. The couple with non-dependent children had the same pattern decreased from 10 percent to 9 percent throughout the time.
Futhermore, The numbers of parent with no child increased from 19 percent in 1971 to 25 percent in 2007, roughly 6 percent increased and got a second rank in change in percentage after the couple with dependent children. The percentage of one person and lone parent increased from 6 percent in 1971 to 12 percent in 2001 and 4 percent in 1971 to 12 percent in 2001 respectively. There is no change in both categories from 2001 to 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide a relevant overview, identifying the rise in one-person and lone-parent households and the decline in households with dependent children. You also include several accurate comparisons, such as the fall from 52% to 36% and the increase from 19% to 25%. However, some details are incomplete or imprecise: the non-dependent-children figure rose slightly to 11% in 1991 before falling to 9%, rather than simply decreasing throughout. The overview also says both couple categories with children decreased, which misses that one was broadly stable overall. Finally, the one-person and lone-parent figures are given only through 2001, although the table shows they remained at 12% in 2007. More precise coverage of these patterns would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting details. The main trends are generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall” and “Furthermore” help signal progression. However, the final paragraph combines several categories and comparisons, making it less focused, while “got a second rank in change in percentage” is difficult to interpret and interrupts the flow. Some connections are also mechanical, and the repeated use of “increased” and “decreased” makes the progression feel list-like. Grouping the figures more consistently—for example, declines together and increases together—and using clearer references to each household type would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “throughout the period,” so the main comparisons are understandable. There are also attempts to use more specific language, such as “dependent children” and “lone parent.” However, several word-form, spelling, and collocation errors reduce precision: “drastical decreased,” “Futhermore,” “numbers of parent,” and “6 percent increased” are not natural or accurate expressions. “Second rank in change in percentage” is also unclear. Aim for standard chart language such as “fell sharply,” “the proportion of lone-parent households,” and “an increase of six percentage points.” Check spelling and choose nouns and verbs that fit the data being described.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some more complex structures, including the overview sentence beginning “Moreover” and the comparison of figures from 1971 to 2007. The meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “there was a drastical decreased” has an incorrect construction, and “The percentage of one person and lone parent increased … respectively” does not maintain a clear grammatical relationship between the two categories and their figures. In “There is no change,” the present tense is inconsistent with the historical period; “There was no change” is appropriate. Work on noun phrases, verb forms, and parallel sentence structures so that comparisons remain clear while you continue using varied sentence patterns.
