Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify some relevant trends, especially the fall in households with dependent children from 52% to 36% and the rise in lone-parent households from 4% to 12%. However, the overview is inaccurate: you say the percentage of “no dependent children” was highest, when dependent-child households were highest throughout, and you describe lone parents as increasing and dependent-child households as increasing at the end, reversing the actual trends. The response also focuses on only a few categories and gives limited comparison across the table; for example, one-person households rise from 6% to 12% but are not discussed. To improve, give a clear, accurate overview of the main rises and falls, then support it with selected figures for the other household types.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an opening statement to an overview and then to details. Time markers such as “in 1971” and “in 2007” help the reader follow the period being described. However, the ideas are not consistently arranged into clear, purposeful paragraphs, and the final sentence repeats earlier points while contradicting them. Linking words such as “then” and “furthermore” are used, but the relationships between ideas are sometimes unclear, particularly where trends are reversed. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and supporting comparisons, and connect each figure directly to the trend it illustrates. This would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “household,” “dependent children,” and “lone parents,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “percentage change” for percentages over time, “highest than,” and “on second rank.” Spelling errors, including “percenage,” “extremaly,” and “beggining,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Try to use a wider set of accurate trend expressions, such as “accounted for,” “declined steadily,” and “rose to,” while checking spelling and natural phrasing. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish increases, decreases, and rankings.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences joined with words such as “then” and “but,” and the main subject matter can usually be understood. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “This table represent” has subject–verb disagreement, while “it reduce consistently and reach” uses incorrect verb forms. The sentence beginning “in great Britain among all the types…” is especially unclear because its clauses do not form a controlled comparison. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and commas attached directly to words. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before attempting longer comparisons.
