Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify several relevant trends, including the rise in one-person and no-children households and the fall in households with dependent children. However, the response reports some figures inaccurately: one-person households were 6% in 1971, not 7%, and non-dependent children fell from 10% to 9%, rather than rising overall. The overview also incorrectly says there were no one-family households or couples; the table includes one-family household categories, including couples. The final sentence is unfinished, so the key decline in dependent-child households is not fully reported. The response is also three words below the required minimum. To improve, give a clear, accurate overview and select a few comparisons that are supported by the table.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph of figures. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In addition” and “Besides” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, there is no clear progression through the data: several categories are grouped together without complete comparisons, and the final sentence stops mid-idea. The long sentence beginning “In 1971, the rate were…” is difficult to follow because it combines several figures and a contrast without clear organisation. Use one paragraph for the main overview and separate body paragraphs for related trends, presenting each comparison in a complete sentence. This would make the information easier to follow and reduce reliance on loosely connected transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “household,” “increased,” “decrease” and “trend,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “the amount of household types” is not an appropriate description of percentages, and “faced a great revolation” does not clearly describe the data. There are also spelling errors such as “revolation” and “inspite,” as well as inconsistent spelling of “non-dependent.” Aim for precise terms such as “proportion,” “percentage” and “households,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a sentence beginning “In addition.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to understand. Examples include “there were seven types of household lived” and “there was not have no one-family households,” where sentence structure and verb forms are faulty. In “the rate were,” the subject and verb do not agree, while “in 2007 it increased at 12%” uses an incorrect preposition in the comparison. The final sentence is incomplete, and punctuation around “however” is also problematic. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, tense and sentence endings.
