Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the period and report several relevant figures, including the decline in households with dependent children from 52% to 36% and the rise in couples without children from 19% to 25%. However, the overview is unclear and includes a major misreading: “the one-family households and couple not mention” is inaccurate, since the table gives figures for one-family household categories. You also state that one-person households were 8% in 1971, when the table shows 6%. The overview should clearly summarise the main trends, especially the fall in dependent-child households and the increases in one-person, childless-couple and lone-parent households. More accurate selection and reporting of the data would make the response more complete and relevant to the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about different household types. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In contrast” signal a comparison. However, progression is not consistently clear because ideas are sometimes repeated or placed together without a clear relationship. For example, the overview says that some categories are “not mention,” then the next paragraph repeats that they are not represented. Several sentences are difficult to follow, particularly “Furthermore, the citizen whoes had no children these are moderate number.” Use one paragraph for the main overview and group the detailed comparisons logically, while using clear references and linking phrases accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “dependent children,” “lone parent,” “increased” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the categories and broad trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make meaning unclear. For instance, “the citizen whoes had no children” does not describe the table category, and “the one person in household” is an awkward way to refer to one-person households. “Most popular types” also suggests preference rather than prevalence. Aim for precise statistical language and use the table’s category labels consistently, such as “households with dependent children” and “accounted for.” Check spelling, including “whose,” and avoid repeating general words such as “people” where “households” is meant.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer clauses, and the response generally communicates that some household categories rose while others fell. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms and agreement. For example, “the parents who had not children they 19%” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “they had decreased later on” has an unclear subject and awkward tense. In “In 1971, the one person in household was 8%,” the percentage is incorrectly attached to the household rather than expressed as a share. Practise accurate patterns such as “The figure for one-person households stood at 6%” and “the proportion of households with dependent children fell.”
