Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main pattern that households with dependent children were the largest category, falling from 52% to 36%, and you report several other figures accurately, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12%. However, the response only partially covers the table: the lone-parent trend is left unfinished, and the overview says only that other categories show “variations” rather than summarising their main changes. The comparison of non-dependent children is also imprecise: the figure was 9% in both 2001 and 2007, not simply a fall to 9% by 2007. The response is 121 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail and development. Include a complete overview and finish the key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph reporting figures, and the information is generally relevant to the table. Some progression is visible as you move from dependent children to other household types. However, the organisation is weakened by an incomplete final point (“finally lone parent increased”) and by the vague overview, which does not clearly group the main trends. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore” and “finally” are used, but the sequence feels list-like rather than showing clear relationships between categories. Improve cohesion by grouping rising categories together and declining or stable categories together, then use clear comparisons and complete each point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant terms, including “percentage,” “dependent children,” “one person household” and “increased,” so the reader can identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “proportion in the modification of some households kinds” is an awkward description of what the table presents, while “the dependent” does not clearly name the category. “Falled” is not the correct form, and “variations” is too general to describe the specific trends. Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “the proportion of households,” “households with dependent children,” and “declined gradually.” Check spelling and word forms before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences linked with “then” and “after,” and the main figures can usually be understood. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms, articles and punctuation. For example, “The no children was 19%” has an incorrect article and verb agreement; “after rose to 25%” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase; and “then increase to 12%” does not maintain the past tense. Several sentences also run together, as in “in 2007.finally,” while the opening sentence is difficult to parse. Use a consistent past tense, form complete clauses, and separate sentences with appropriate punctuation. Practising accurate comparative structures will help you express the data more clearly.
