Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant trends, including the fall in households with dependent children (52% to 36%) and the rise in one-person households and lone-parent households. However, the response only partially summarises the table: the overview is unclear, and the claim that single-family and couple households are “not in the records” is inaccurate. The table gives figures for one-family households, including couples with no children and with children. Some comparisons are also imprecise: lone-parent households reached 12% in 2001 and remained at 12% in 2007, not 2002. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and report the categories and dates accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview, and further details, and it uses some linking expressions such as “Overall,” “whereas,” and “while.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or placed together without clear relationships. For example, the overview says that “single person and lone person and householder” rose, but the categories are not clearly distinguished. The final paragraph combines figures for childless couples and lone parents in a confusing sentence. Organise the details into clear comparisons, such as rising categories versus declining categories, and use references that make each household type unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “dependent children,” and “increased,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repeated expressions make the meaning unclear. “Householders” is repeatedly used where you mean households, while “single person,” “lone person,” and “alone parents” are not controlled labels for the table’s categories. There are also spelling errors such as “Childern,” “decresae,” and “cople.” Use the table’s category names consistently and choose precise trend language, for example, “accounted for,” “declined,” and “remained stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer structures, including comparisons with “whereas” and “while,” but sentence control is inconsistent and errors frequently make the relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “Overall, table represents types” and “Single person and lone person and householder are rose,” where articles and verb forms are missing or incorrect. The sentence about lone parents also lacks a clear grammatical structure and mixes dates. Most sentences rely on basic patterns, with limited accurate control of complex clauses. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, plurals, agreement, and past-tense forms when describing changes over time.
