PEOPLE IN HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE OF HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart have given draws a idea about the change in some household types in Great Britain from 1971 to 2007.As there have huge gap in between there in no doubt to have change and diffefernces.

Firstly, from the given table the types of household which belongs only one person ;here from 1971 to 2007 the number has increased. Because day by day the culture of living together are not familiar in this era. Thus the one person types of household are increased and which hasnot surprised me at all though.

On the other hand, one family households has catagorized with no children, dependent children,no-dependent children and lone parent. Nowadays there are more couple who havenot any child or not willing to take any child has seen more commonly than before. So here in 1971 the percent was 19 and in 2007 this have increased to in 25. Besides, the couple with dependent children has decreaed the years have passed. The self dependent tendency on children has increased than before and thus the number of dependent children has down from 53 percent to 36. Moreover, non-dependent children number has also changed a little bit. And finally the percentage of lonely parent have increased more the year has passed.

So to conclude, we see how the year has passed and how the situation and culture has changed. In the time of 1971 people were more likely to live together and after 30 year people got more lonely and have increased more self sufficiency which I think in some cases good though not always.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the main household categories and identify several important trends: one-person households rise, couples without children increase, and households with dependent children decline. The figures for couples without children (19% to 25%) and dependent children (52% to 36%) broadly match the table, although the starting figure is given as 53% rather than 52%. You also note that lone-parent households increase, but do not report their values, and the change in non-dependent children is described only vaguely. The response would be stronger with a concise, data-focused overview highlighting the largest category and the main overall shifts. Explanations about changing culture and self-sufficiency are speculative and are not shown by the table; focus instead on reporting and comparing the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to household categories and then a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate the discussion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is weakened by mechanical or imprecise linking, including “So here” and “And finally,” and some references are unclear, as in “the number has down.” The conclusion repeats broad claims about changing culture rather than synthesising the key figures. Organise the body around clear comparisons, use linking phrases only where they express a real relationship, and make each sentence’s subject explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children,” “couple,” and “percentage,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the chart have given draws a idea,” “lonely parent,” and “the number … has down.” Spelling errors, including “diffefernces,” “catagorized,” and “decreaed,” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are conversational or evaluative rather than suitable for a formal data summary, for example “hasnot surprised me at all” and “which I think in some cases good.” Build a more precise set of trend verbs and neutral reporting phrases, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “though,” and “which.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “The chart have given draws a idea,” where the verb pattern and article are faulty, and “the number of dependent children has down,” which needs a correct verb construction. There are also agreement and tense problems in “one family households has catagorized” and “the years have passed.” Punctuation is often missing after sentence openings and around clauses. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of table data, subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; simpler, well-controlled sentences would improve clarity while you develop complex forms.
