Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant trends, including the rise in one-person and lone-parent households and the fall in households with dependent children. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it gives no figures after 1971, so the main changes are not supported with comparisons across the period. The statement that “One family households and couple not mentioned throughout the years” is unclear and overlooks the table’s couple categories. The overview also says “percentage of one increased,” without specifying one-person households. The response is 101 words, below the required 150, which further limits the coverage. To improve, provide a clear overview and compare key starting and ending figures, such as dependent-child households falling from 52% to 36%.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a paragraph with figures for 1971. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph reports only one year and does not develop the trends introduced earlier. Several links are awkward or unclear, particularly “moreover” in the list of figures and “after the other two years its also same percentage,” where the time sequence is difficult to follow. The overview also combines several points in a way that makes their relationships unclear. Group the data into meaningful comparisons and use clear time markers such as “by 2007” and “over the period.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “household types,” “dependent children,” “lone parent,” “increased,” and “decreased.” These choices show an attempt to describe categories and trends. However, the range is limited, and several phrases are imprecise or incorrectly formed, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “percentage of one” does not clearly identify one-person households, while “non children” is not an accurate label for the table category “no children.” “Non dependent children” also needs clearer hyphenation and phrasing. Use the table’s category names consistently and vary trend language with accurate terms such as “rose,” “declined,” and “remained stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and a longer sentence describing several trends, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors are frequent enough to affect clarity. In “The table Illustrate,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “Overall, percentage of one increased” is missing an article and has an unclear subject. The sentence beginning “Non dependent children remained same percentage” has missing grammatical elements and an unclear sequence of clauses. There are also problems with tense and punctuation, such as the capitalisation of “Illustrate” and the run-on list of figures in the final paragraph. Practise complete, controlled sentences, for example: “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% in 1971 to 12% in 2007.”
