Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You report figures for all five household categories and accurately identify the largest category as dependent-children households. The overview also attempts to identify the smallest category, but this is incorrect: lone-parent households were the smallest only in 1971; by 2007, one-person households, couples with no children, and lone-parent households all stood at 12%, while non-dependent-child households were at 9%. Your account of the main figures is generally relevant, though the overview misses the broad contrast between the decline in dependent-child households and the growth in several other types. Some trends are also unclear, such as saying the dependent-child figure “stay stable” when it fell from 41% to 39% and then 36%. A more accurate overview and clearer emphasis on the main changes would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the household types. Sequencing is generally understandable, and time references help the reader follow the data. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated transitions such as “Moreover” and “While,” and some links do not form complete or clear sentences. For example, “While, in the year 2001 and 2007 showed the similar ration” is difficult to connect to the preceding sentence, while “as before stay same” leaves the reference unclear. Grouping the rising categories together and the declining category separately, then using more precise comparisons, would make the progression smoother and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children,” “percentage,” and “increased,” so the reader can usually identify the categories and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the description less clear. “The highest ratio showed in” and “the lowest percentum showed in” are not natural ways to describe the figures; use “accounted for the highest proportion” and “had the lowest percentage.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Britian,” “deaced,” and “non-dependaent,” alongside repeated use of “showed.” Aim for accurate category labels and a wider set of natural trend verbs, such as “rose,” “declined,” and “remained unchanged.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally understand the figures being compared. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent, particularly in the longer descriptions. For instance, “one person household, showed the ratio 6” lacks a clear grammatical subject construction, while “as before stay stable” and “which was at 12” do not consistently express the intended tense or agreement. Several clauses beginning with “While” are fragments rather than complete sentences. Use complete subject–verb structures, for example, “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% to 8%,” and check articles, plurals, and punctuation. More reliable control of these basic patterns would make the data easier to follow.
