Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant household categories and report the broad direction of change for most of them, including the rise in one-person and lone-parent households and the fall in households with dependent children. However, the response only partially summarises the table: it gives no clear overview of the most important overall pattern, and the category coverage is incomplete. There is also a significant data error: couples with no children rose from 19% to 25%, rather than falling to 12%. The statement that there are “seven types” is not a useful summary of the main features. To strengthen the response, select the largest changes and the categories that remained stable, and check each comparison against the table.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some basic organisation: it begins with an introduction and then discusses categories in separate stages, using sequence markers such as “Next feature” and “Then.” This gives the reader a general sense of the order of information. However, progression is limited because the categories are listed one by one without grouping related trends or establishing a clear overview. Linking is also repetitive, and some transitions are awkward, as in “So the percentage are decreased. and the other step are dependent children.” Organise the body around contrasting patterns—for example, categories that increased versus those that declined—and use clearer links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to identify the household categories and describe simple changes, including “increased,” “decreased” and “decline.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “feature,” “step” and “information.” Some word choices and forms make the meaning less natural, including “one person” where “one-person households” is clearer, and “her percentage” for a category. Aim for accurate, varied language for describing table data, and use the same category labels as the table. More precise verbs and comparison phrases would help you report trends without repeating the same wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use a simple subject-and-verb pattern, and you attempt longer constructions with “and” and “that mean,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in agreement and verb forms: “The table illustrate,” “the table given us,” and “the percentage are increased.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as shown by “decreased. and the other step are dependent children,” while the opening has no space after “Overall,”. These errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses, for example: “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% to 12%.”
