Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify a relevant overall feature: households with dependent children had the largest share, and you attempt to compare household types. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: lone-parent households were not the smallest throughout, since one-person households were lower in 1971 (6% versus 4% for lone parents, actually lone parents were lower then) and the figures later become equal at 12%. More importantly, the final sentences misread the table: “zeromembers in all years” is incorrect, and the categories are not zero; no-children couples rose from 19% to 25%. The response also omits most clear trends and comparisons, and it is 25 words below the required minimum. Report the main changes accurately and support them with key figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview beginning “Overall,” and further details. This gives the reader some indication of the intended structure. However, the progression then becomes difficult to follow: “Here” introduces unclear comparisons, and the final lines (“the same household has seen…” and “sane as in 1971…”) do not explain which categories or years are being compared. Several ideas are run together, with little effective linking or clear paragraph development. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and selected data, and connect each comparison explicitly—for example, contrast the decline in dependent-child households with the rise in one-person and lone-parent households.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “household types,” “dependent children,” and “lone parent,” so the topic is recognisable. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, as in “highest ratio,” “carry lowest ratio,” and “very less membership”; these expressions make the data difficult to interpret. “Considerably equal” is also unclear, while “zeromembers” does not accurately describe a percentage. Spelling errors such as “Britian,” “sane,” and “childew” further reduce clarity. Build a small set of precise terms for describing percentages and trends, and check spelling and word forms before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including an opening description and an overview introduced by “Overall.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence structures are incomplete or difficult to understand. For example, “Here, one person family has shown…” lacks clear grammatical relationships, while “the same household has seen in no children” has no clear subject–verb meaning. There are also problems with articles and agreement in “family of dependent children…shows” and with sentence boundaries and punctuation, including missing spaces after commas and a fragment beginning “and lone parent.” Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check articles, agreement, and punctuation.
