Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall contrast: one-person, childless-couple and lone-parent households generally increased, while households with dependent children declined. The figures you give for these trends are largely accurate, including the fall from 52% to 36% for dependent children and the rise in lone-parent households from 4% to 12%. You also note that several categories levelled off by the final year. This covers the task, but some features are less fully reported: for example, the non-dependent-children category fluctuates slightly rather than simply falling, and the table’s categories are not always described precisely as household types. A clearer overview and more exact wording about the groups would make the key comparisons more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a summary of the broad trends, and paragraphs describing rising and falling categories. Grouping the increasing categories together before discussing the decreases is a sensible way to organise the information. However, progression is sometimes weakened by repeated openings such as “It is clearly seen that,” and the long final paragraph combines several figures and comparisons in one sentence. Linking phrases such as “Similarly” and “on the other hand” help, but some connections feel mechanical, and punctuation makes the relationships between clauses less clear. Use shorter sentences, give each paragraph a clear focus, and vary transitions so the comparisons are easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “percent,” “increase,” “decrease,” “reach,” and “remains constant,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “one person household was at 6 percent” and “lone parent was also in 4 percent.” Repetition of “reach” and “rise” also makes the account less precise. Spelling errors, including “begining,” “reche,” “beacme,” and “percnet,” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Build a more varied set of trend expressions and check spelling and natural combinations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can usually understand the comparisons. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in subject–verb agreement and verb forms: “The given table illustrate” should be “illustrates,” while “one person, no children and lone parent has” needs a plural verb. Tense and construction are also awkward in phrases such as “it has rose” and “was also in 4 percent.” Several sentences run on, especially the final one, where multiple time points are joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and divide long sequences of figures into shorter sentences. These changes would make your range of structures clearer and more reliable.
