Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify several relevant categories and report some correct figures, including one-person households rising from 6% to 12%, childless couples increasing from 19% to 25%, and lone-parent households reaching 12% by 2001 and remaining there in 2007. However, the response gives only a limited account of the table and lacks a clear, accurate overview of its main patterns. The statement that dependent-child households were “higher” is not balanced by noting their substantial decline from 52% to 36%, and “all the number is low” is unclear. You also refer to 2012 instead of 2007 and say non-dependent children are unchanged, although the figure falls from 10% to 9%. The response is 144 words, six short of the required minimum; develop the overview and comparisons to meet the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response follows the table’s categories in a roughly sensible order, moving from one-person households through the family types to lone-parent households. Basic sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “the other one,” and “the last one” help signal this progression. However, the writing is presented as one continuous block, with no clear overview separated from the details, and connections between ideas are often difficult to follow. For example, “there is two number is added” does not make clear which figures or categories are being compared. Repeated use of “this number” also leaves references vague. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs, and use clearer links between comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “households,” “dependent children,” “no children,” and “lone parent,” so the reader can recognise the categories being discussed. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several phrases are not natural for describing data: “6 percentages,” “the number … is higher,” and “the number is diper” make the intended comparisons harder to understand. There are also spelling errors, such as “pecent” and “parend.” Use “6%” or “6 per cent,” and choose precise trend language such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “accounted for.” This would make the report clearer without requiring unnecessarily advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts simple statements and some comparisons, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “one person households type in 1971 is 6 percentages” has problems with sentence structure, agreement, and the way the figure is expressed. The sequence “the number of no children is 1971 years is low percentages is only 19” also lacks a clear grammatical pattern. Most sentences rely on repeated “is” constructions, so there is little variety in clause structure. Practise accurate comparative forms, such as “The proportion of one-person households rose from 6% in 1971 to 12% in 2007,” and check verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries when editing.
