Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the table’s topic and mention several relevant categories, including one-person households, couples without children, dependent children and lone-parent households. You also correctly note that the first, second and fourth categories rise overall, while the dependent-children figure falls. However, the account is only partly developed: it gives almost no figures beyond “19 to 25” and “36 years,” and it does not identify the most important comparison—that dependent-children households remain the largest category despite their decline from 52% to 36%. The statement that non-dependent children decrease is also incomplete, since the figure rises slightly before falling. A clearer overview and accurate supporting figures would make the main features more fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general overview and comments on individual household types. However, the progression is weak because the same broad idea is repeated in several closing sentences, such as “This table represents the change” and “It shows the trend of household changes and variations.” These statements add little information, while the categories are not organised into clear comparisons. Linking words such as “Similarly” and “also” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between the trends. Group the rising categories together and contrast them with the declining categories, then finish with a concise summary rather than repeating the introduction.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “household,” “dependent children” and “lone parent,” so the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear. For example, “the trend of no children … shows progresses” and “household … elevates” do not express the data naturally; “increases” or “rises” would be more suitable. “Non dependent” also needs consistent hyphenation as “non-dependent.” Repeated use of “trend,” “changes” and “variations” makes the description imprecise. Use a wider set of accurate terms for reporting data, such as “accounted for,” “declined,” and “remained stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main topic is usually understandable. However, errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction and agreement. For example, “The table provides information how … varies” needs a structure such as “information about how … varied,” while “Dependent and Non-dependent children shows” has a plural subject and requires “show.” The sentence beginning “This table how household…” is incomplete, and “one person household increases” lacks an article and uses an inconsistent tense for a period ending in 2007. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Practise complete sentences, subject–verb agreement, articles and past-tense reporting before attempting longer constructions.
