Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad contrast between the falling share of households with dependent children and the rise in several other categories. However, key details are misreported: the no-children figure rose from 19% to 25%, not 12%, and one-family households is not a separate category with a trend in this table. The overview also says other categories increased “in every year,” although some remained stable or fell in later years. The response gives only limited coverage of the data and lacks a clear, accurate summary of the main patterns. It is also 10 words below the required minimum. To improve, include a concise overview and select a few accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of details. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Turning towards” signal movement between sections, so the reader can follow the general intention. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: categories are combined without a clear organising principle, and the final paragraph moves from one-person households to couples, no-children households, and lone parents. Some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, and references such as “other” and “the same figure” are not always clear. Group the categories by trend—for example, those that rose and those that fell—and use straightforward links to make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “dependent children,” “non-dependent,” “decrease,” and “rise,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts difficult to interpret. For example, “differences happen in many houses kinds” is not a natural way to introduce the table, while “No children were 19% upgraded to 12%” gives the wrong sense of the data and uses an unsuitable verb. Spelling errors such as “Britian,” “signficant,” and “begining” also reduce control. Use precise terms such as “proportion” and “accounted for,” and check spelling and category labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response is divided into readable units. However, grammatical errors occur frequently, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “the differences happen,” “dependent children was 52%,” and “which shown great change.” The sentence beginning “Turning towards in to the same figure” also has an unclear structure, making the comparison difficult to follow. Tense and preposition patterns are often inaccurate, as in “between 1971 to 2007.” Practise building clear comparison sentences with a consistent past-tense frame, such as “The figure fell from 52% in 1971 to 36% in 2007,” and check subject–verb agreement.
