Student answer (Band 6.5)

Tourism is one of the rapid growing industries and it plays an important role in economic development of the world. While some peoples believe that there are some bad consequences on local cultures and environment due to tourism. In my point of view, this opinion is not completely true, but we can accept it until some extents.

In some countries tourism is the main source of economy. In countries like Thailand, Singapore, Maldives and Vietnam peoples have been fulfilling their own needs by the help of tourism industry and I strongly believe that foreigners are learning their cultures too.

Taking South Asian countries as an example, tourist have been vising these countries because of cultural diversities. Despite maximum tourist visit to study about their cultures while some missionaries also went there just to spread rumor and destroy the local culture by playing some victim cards too. As an example: In Nepal there used to be 10 percent Raute (An ancient tribes) and some foreigners influence them to leave jungle and right now their population is decreased to 7 percent.

There are both responsible and irresponsible individuals in the world. In past some irresponsible individuals just visited the place where I live and throw garbage's and pollutes an area and which was the vital problem of both local and foreign tourism which was later recognized by local government, and they just made some fines and punishments which solved this problem later.

In conclusion, while some people believe that tourism can be harsh for local cultures and environment which is being ignored, but I ultimately believe that tourism is contributing on economy and the problems, and the negative impact is also being recognized by the authorities, which proves that tourism is contributing positively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the economic benefits and the potential negative impacts of tourism. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples like the Raute tribe in Nepal, the connection between these examples and your overall argument is occasionally tenuous. The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by more nuanced analysis rather than simply stating that authorities have solved the problems. To reach a higher band, ensure that every example directly supports your thesis statement and provides a more comprehensive exploration of the 'extent' to which you agree or disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Despite maximum tourist visit to study about their cultures while some missionaries also went there'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to ensure a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economic development', 'cultural diversities', and 'irresponsible individuals'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'rapid growing industries' (should be 'rapidly growing') and 'until some extents' (should be 'to some extent'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'playing some victim cards'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your expression. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the environment', 'the economy'), pluralization ('peoples' instead of 'people', 'garbage's' instead of 'garbage'), and verb tense consistency. For example, 'tourist have been vising' should be 'tourists have been visiting'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your main points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of articles, which are currently the most common sources of error in your writing.
