Student answer (Band 6.5)

The world if full of diversity, a big amount of people want to explore these diversities, for which they travel to lot of places. This gives rise to tourism, where people visit these places, explore cultures and traditions. In the process they contribute to economy and prosperity of that place. This often leads to destruction of local environment and culture with which i fully agree with it.

For countries like Maldives, tourism is a big chunk for there economy, but it has hidden damages which are often ignored. For instance, people usually don't throw garbage in proper designated places which creates a unmannerly sight. Similarly, when people visit new places, due to cultural shock, they tend to do things which may not be acceptable in new culture in this way tourism mostly damages environment and culture but are often ignored.

Tourists in most of the cases, have habit of throwing garbage where ever they see fit, which cause lot of environmental problems like plastics from beaches travel to sea via the winds which severally impact marine life. e.g. In India, people from all over the country visit Goa, which has lots of beaches but due to influx of tourists, its also has garbage problem as tourists mostly don't care about surroundings making it dirty and also ruins others experience. Similarly, Tourists usually visit for sight seeing which often leads to actions considered as disrespectful in those places, for example, Some tourists, visiting Japan, often harass females theirs creating a bad taste.

In conclusion, the economic impact done by tourism is great but due to courtesy and respect for tourists often leads to damage to vary environment they mean to admire, which is than ignored.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position of agreement. The ideas are relevant, focusing on environmental degradation and cultural disrespect. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the issue of garbage is discussed in both the second and third paragraphs. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more nuanced and better structured to avoid redundancy. The conclusion is a bit brief and does not fully synthesize the main points, but the overall task requirements are met with a consistent stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'in this way' is used to summarize, but the connection to the preceding sentence is weak. There are also issues with referencing; 'which' is occasionally used without a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt, as both deal with similar themes of environmental damage, making the progression feel slightly disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'big amount of people' (should be 'large number of people'), 'unmannerly sight' (should be 'unsightly'), and 'bad taste' (which is an idiom used incorrectly here). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, the student needs to use more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary and improve their grasp of natural English collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tourism... are often ignored'), incorrect preposition usage, and article errors (e.g., 'for there economy' instead of 'their economy'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
