Student answer (Band 7.0)

Tourism industry is speedily increasing over period of time and invests a lot into the economy of various countries over the globe, but some argue that it is damaging local culture and disrupting the environment which is mostly ignored. I agree that tourism often creates hassle for the residents of the country through inappropriate behaviors and a lot of things go unnoticed.

Every country has its own culture and traditions that is incorporated into their daily lives; therefore, a foreigner might be unaware of it. Most of the tourists might not be able to adapt to system properly as they might not deem it important enough due to lack of cultural differences. For instance, in Korea the community is very conservative and avoid sensitive topics especially elders whereas a tourist could create an argument over something that is entirely normal for the people of Korea.

Environment is also greatly affected by tourism as individuals mostly visit heritages or famous spots like Eiffel tower or the great museum in Paris that could get crowded due to overwhelming amount of people, resulting in trash all over the place. In addition, the places are easily worn out due to ill-mannered behavior of some tourists as they do not adhere to the local policies. In Japan, there are strict rules regarding throwing and taking out garbage, last year few tourists were banned from the Japan because they trashed the street.

In conclusion, although tourism results in the enhancement of most of the country's GDP but the problems that tourists often create outweighs the benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You provided relevant examples, such as the cultural sensitivity in Korea and waste management issues in Japan, to support your arguments. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the discussion on cultural impact could be more nuanced, and the conclusion is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully explored and that your conclusion synthesizes the main arguments more effectively rather than just restating the prompt's premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'therefore', 'for instance', and 'in addition', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the places' in the third paragraph, which lacks a clear antecedent. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always explicit and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'conservative', 'overwhelming', and 'adhere'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'speedily increasing over period of time' (should be 'increasing rapidly over time') and 'visit heritages' (should be 'visit heritage sites'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, which limits the precision of your expression. To achieve a higher score, work on using more sophisticated collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'traditions that is incorporated' (subject-verb agreement error), 'lack of cultural differences' (which doesn't quite capture the intended meaning), and 'banned from the Japan' (incorrect article usage). While these errors rarely impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and refining your complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
