Student answer (Band 7.0)
In the recent years, tourism industries have grown significantly as a result of improving global relations among the countries. Moreover, it also gives boost to the host country's economy. This rapid growth has brought forward the argument of damaging effects of tourism caused by the tourists to the local cultures and environment being ignored. I completely agree with the argument that tourism causes negative imapcts on the environment, given the fact that tourist often cause physical damage and adversely pollute the surronding environment, which is often ignored by the people.
It is an undeniable fact that tourism is a significant contributor to a nation's economy, where the historical and other popular places attracts a lot of tourists from around the world. It not only provides a great experience to the tourist but also it directly contributes to local and global economy of the host country. Consequently, increasing tourism is considered as very benifical for the country. However, the damage caused by the tourism industry is often overlooked and people majorly focus on the silver lining. For instance, according to a survey by the Tourism Division of India, it was recorded that the physical condtition of various historical monuments is deteriorating as a result of tourists fiddling with the monuments.
Tourism can greatly impact the local enviornment in several ways such as, increase in tourism drives a lot of people to a particular location. Consequnetly, it disturbs the local enviorment not only by causing traffic jams but also causes adverse noise and air polution. Tourism also has a negative cultural impact, where tourist from different countries and different cultures often inflict a different cultural behaviour on the locals which causes a cultural influence on them. For example, according to a study published by Oxford University, it was brought to the attention that, frequent exposure to different cultures have a lasting and often reforming influence on the people. This statement can be directly related to the scenario, where local culture is often affected by foreign tourists and thier behaviour and practices.
In conclusion, tourism is indeed a fatest growing industry, which directly impacts positively on a nation's growth and I completely agree with the argument that the damage tourism can cause on local cultures and the enviornment is often ignored, given the fact that most people consider increasing tourism as an advantage, ignoring the adverse envinmental polution, monumental damage and culutural influence it can cuase.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly addressed all parts of the prompt, maintaining a consistent position throughout the essay. You acknowledge the economic benefits of tourism while strongly arguing that the environmental and cultural damage is frequently ignored. Your ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the reference to the Tourism Division of India and the mention of Oxford University. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are fully integrated into the argument rather than just mentioned, and provide a slightly deeper analysis of how these specific examples prove your point about the 'ignored' nature of the damage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'For instance' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the economic benefits to the environmental and cultural drawbacks. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always smooth, avoiding overly simplistic connectors where more sophisticated ones would better serve the flow of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'deteriorating', 'adverse', and 'inflict'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'imapcts', 'surronding', 'benifical', 'condtition', 'enviorment', 'polution', and 'fatest'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While your word choice is generally appropriate for the task, you need to focus on accuracy in spelling and collocation to achieve a higher band. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also help elevate the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the tourism industry', 'a nation's growth'), subject-verb agreement ('places attracts'), and pluralization ('tourist from different countries'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'inflict a different cultural behaviour on the locals which causes a cultural influence on them'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
