Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism sector plays a crucial role on countries economy, which is the fastest growing industries around the globe. Sometimes this sector can causes several problems on certain things of countries such as local cultures and environment. Although such problems are often ignored by local council or governments, I firmly disagree with this avoidance due to such factor leads to the overall countries degradation.

First and foremost, why I disagree with this statement is that the problems of local cultures and environment ruin people's overall growth of lives. This is because the level of carbon dioxide is increased significantly by exploring a massive amount of people. As a result of that, the temperature of this area is more likely to get warm, making people of this area feel uncomfortable. For example, a area which always witness visiting by tourists, there weather temperature always getting warm which actually brings misery to those area for people.

In addition to environment problems, local cultures also face harm by used plastic or bottles. For instance, it is seen that tourists who do not conscious to protect environment often throw the used plastic bottles to the surface. Consequently, this area of soil fertility mitigates ultimately, which actually causes suffering to the people of that area, decreasing agricultural yield and fish population of that environment.

To conclude, although tourism can experience several benefits, ultimate neglecting by government or local council can environmental and local cultural problems, and for this reason I completely disagree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited and occasionally repetitive. While you identify the negative impacts of tourism, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. The essay is also slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of the response. To improve, ensure that each paragraph provides a clear, logical link between the tourism activity and the specific cultural or environmental consequence mentioned. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs. Expanding on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments would help reach a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'As a result of that' or 'Consequently, this area of soil fertility mitigates'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, making some transitions feel forced. While there is a clear introduction and conclusion, the internal flow within the body paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this area', 'such problems') is precise and clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'mitigates' is used incorrectly in the context of soil fertility, and 'exploring a massive amount of people' is an unnatural way to describe tourism. You rely on some basic vocabulary and struggle with precise terminology related to environmental or cultural issues. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and avoid using complex words if you are not entirely certain of their meaning or usage in a specific context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tourism sector plays', 'this sector can causes'), article usage (e.g., 'a area'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'there weather temperature always getting warm'). These errors are noticeable and sometimes require the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that prepositions and articles are used correctly. Proofreading for these common errors is essential.
