Student answer (Band 7.0)

The tourism sector plays a vital role in countries’ economical growths, which is the fastest growing industry around the globe. Local cultures and the environment are destroyed by tourism due to the avoidance of local councils or government. I firmly agree with this statement because authorities often prioritize sort-term financial gain over environmental sustainability and cultural preservation.

First and foremost, uncontrolled tourists can cause severe environmental problems. This is because many tourists discard plastic waste irresponsibly, which ultimately leads to water and soil pollution. As a result of that, soil fertility and marine life are more likely to be damaged significantly. Moreover, the continuous influx of travellers leads to heavy traffic and excessive energy consumption, which increases the amount of carbon emissions. Consequently, the local temperature dramatically gets higher, making people feel more uncomfortable. For example, a renowned busy tourist spot where excessive vehicles cause severe carbon emissions, which ultimately leads to uncomfortable weather and several breathing problems for humans.

In addition to environmental problems, massive amount of foreign travellers impact on particular cultural problems. It means that people of touristy spots always witness diverse area’s people. As a result of that, local people are encouraged by their dressing sense and behaviour, followed by local people and ultimately their cultural tradition are in danger of being wiped out. For instance, in many Asian coastal town, local youth people are increasingly adopting western fashion and behaviour seen in international tourists, which has led to a noticeable decline in the use of traditional clothing during cultural festivals.

In conclusion, although tourism brings some foreign currency and stabilize countries’ economical sector, uncontrolled travelling causes environmental and cultural degradation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a firm position and providing relevant arguments regarding environmental and cultural impacts. The ideas are generally well-developed, such as the discussion on plastic waste and the erosion of local traditions. However, some points could be further extended; for instance, the example of the 'renowned busy tourist spot' is vague and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that all examples are concrete and fully integrated into the argument. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your main points while acknowledging the economic benefits of tourism.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'It means that people of touristy spots always witness diverse area’s people'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'environmental sustainability', 'cultural preservation', and 'degradation'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'economical growths' (should be 'economic growth') and 'uncontrolled tourists' (should be 'uncontrolled tourism'). Additionally, the phrase 'local youth people' is slightly unnatural. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully employ complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'massive amount of foreign travellers impact on' (should be 'impacts') and 'local temperature dramatically gets higher' (should be 'rises'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response.
