Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people people think that tourists can damage the heritage of their country, but I agree with those who tell that tourism is good for local developing, because visitors can invest money in the country they visit.

This is a big problem that many tourists are very irresponsible in the case of attitude to foreign traditions and heritage. Their actions can insult locals, but in the worst cases the important objects can be damaged or even destroyed. Foreigners, especially those who travel in the countries with absolutely different cultures, can touch exhibits they do not suppose to touch, take photos where they cannot take them, or make other forbidden actions. For example, the authorities of asian counties are very sensitive to their heritage, thus breaking the rules can lead to enormous fees and even to prison.

Therefore, I believe that any government should develop the international tourism. The foreign tourists, especially from more developed countries, leave their money in the local economy. Improving the tourism, the authorities increase this money flow, which they can spend at any needs. Besides that, the local business also earns money, which gives the opportunity to grow and to increase the number of workplaces in the economy. The country also gains the international reputation, so the investors all around the world can bring money, which gives more resources for development and in perspective increases the quality of live. For example, many South-Asia countries improved the tourism, which helped to significantly increased the quality of life.

In conclusion, while there are people who think that tourism have detrimental effect on their country, I think that it beneficial for the quality of live in this country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the negative impacts of tourism and the economic benefits. However, the position is slightly contradictory; you acknowledge the damage to heritage but then focus almost exclusively on economic growth without fully reconciling the two sides of the argument. While you provide examples like Asian countries, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that your arguments directly address the 'extent' of your agreement, perhaps by suggesting how the negative impacts can be mitigated while still reaping the economic rewards, rather than simply dismissing the concerns in favor of financial gain.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Besides that', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second paragraph (discussing damage) and the third (discussing economic benefits) is somewhat abrupt. The logical progression is generally clear, but the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next by explicitly referencing the previous point.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental', 'heritage', and 'international reputation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'local developing' (should be 'local development') and 'at any needs' (should be 'for any needs'). Additionally, there is some repetition of basic words like 'money' and 'country'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition, and ensure that you are using words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'people people' (repetition), 'those who tell that' (should be 'those who argue that'), 'in the case of attitude to' (awkward phrasing), and 'quality of live' (should be 'quality of life'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
