Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world, tourism is one of the trending industries and also it contributes to wide range of economies around the world. While it also has some negative impacts towards local culture and the environment but government and individuals often ignore. I strongly agree that introducing western culture and using plastic and litter can affect local culture and environment.

First and foremost, nowadays people are attracted towards western culture by learning habits from tourists. Whereas, people are wearing western branded clothes instead of local branded clothes to look more attractive, therefore many local clothing brands faces economic crises. For instance, in the present time youngsters prefer suits instead of traditional wear in marriage and function rituals. As a result, local culture is disturbed by tourist trends and affects people local business.

Secondly, by an increasing in tourism people also use plastic bags and bottles during traveling and after use they litter at any where that's causing pollution. Furthermore, government and individuals ignored these often times these affect environment problems. For example, many metropolitan cities are polluted by plastic and litter and that causes land pollution. Overall, tourist use plastic items for utilise but after using it they litter at any place instead of dustbin that causes environment pollution.

In conclusion, local individuals are attracting towards western culture such as clothes and events, that affect local market and businesses in economies crisis. While tourism also affect litter at historic and nature places by littering, however these cause land pollution and hygiene problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the economic benefits and the negative impacts of tourism. You clearly state your position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention westernization and pollution, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with deeper analysis or more specific, varied examples. The conclusion repeats points already made rather than synthesizing the argument effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more nuanced exploration of the 'extent' to which you agree, rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'these often times these affect environment problems'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economic crises', 'metropolitan', and 'traditional wear'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'tourist use plastic items for utilise' and 'people are attracted towards western culture'. Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly the use of 'litter' as both a noun and a verb in a way that sounds unnatural. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'local clothing brands faces'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'by an increasing in tourism'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You should focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
