Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is undeniable that tourism being one of the fasting moving industries along with great contribution to economics across the globe does damage to the local cultures and environment which is often ignored. I agree up to a large extent with this particular notion due to the logical reasons and facts that will be outlined in the forthcoming fragments of the essay.

To begin with, there are some merits of tourism to economics of the nations. First and foremost is that it supports the livelihood of some nations entirely. To explain, some countries with no primary source of income depend on tourism in order to develop and generate employment. Thailand, Vietnam are the primary examples of countries who depend on tourism for economic stability.

However, due to these benefits the severe damage to local culture and environmental exploitation is out looked that is stated further. Firstly, damage to local culture and tradition by the tourists. To elaborate, people with no knowledge of culture of the countries they travel to often over step in harming the cultural values of the local people. For example, tourists take photos and make videos in they areas in which it is prohibited which results dispute among the visitors and the residents of the area. Moreover, it is often seen that tourists do not care about cleanliness of the environment of the country they travel to. As of my experience of visiting Goa beach, which is one of the primary tourist places in India. I have seen people throwing plastic products such as bottles, wrappers and other things while the locals are cleaning it. As a result people start discouraging tourism just because it damages their cultural beliefs and exploits the environment.

To conclude, although there are some economic benefits of tourism across the planet yet the ignorance of damage done to local cultures along with environment must not be neglected at any cost in all the nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, clearly stating your position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Thailand and Vietnam for economic benefits, and your personal observation in Goa. However, the development of your arguments is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on cultural damage could be more deeply explored beyond the example of photography. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended with more analytical depth rather than relying on brief anecdotes. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'out looked that is stated further'. Additionally, the use of referencing could be improved; for example, in the second paragraph, 'these benefits' refers back to the previous paragraph, but the connection could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though some sentences within paragraphs feel slightly disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economic stability', 'environmental exploitation', and 'prohibited'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'fasting moving industries' (should be 'fastest-growing'), 'out looked' (should be 'overlooked'), and 'results dispute' (should be 'results in disputes'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to tourism and environmental issues to enhance the naturalness of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow. Examples include 'tourism being one of the fasting moving industries... does damage' (subject-verb agreement/structure issues), 'in they areas' (preposition/article error), and 'As of my experience' (should be 'In my experience'). While you attempt complex sentences, they are often marred by minor errors in punctuation and word order. Increasing your control over sentence construction and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will help you achieve a higher band score.
