Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is no doubt in it that tourism is one of the most fastest growing industries in the world, and countries which host tourist do have some impact on their cultures and environment to some extent.

If I talk about my country Pakistan, it have started get recognition by the tourist especially from the west because of its beautiful landscapes, valleys, rivers and food.

When ever tourist go in any country they represent their country and their culture and people get fascinated by it. For example, If there is a western women visiting my country, they are open minded have completely different dressing code, Our women when they see them, try to copy that dressing and eventually after some time( few years). Those girls will not year same dress as it is in there culture but wear a western dress because they think they'll look much cool in it.

And not only in dressing the public affection they show towards their partner can also impact the thinking of people in that area.

If they drink, and found of drinking, people will find it very disturbing because not everywhere it is allowed to drink.

Now let's come to environment, a healthy environment is neccesary for a country, from upbringing of their children to living your retirement days.

A few days ago I read a story of a tourist in Thailand sexually assaulted and killed a 12 year old girl, tried to dispose of the body and fleeing the country caught by police, I mean this is the type of people we are dealing with. Nobody will tolerate this kind of act by an alien in their country. and what will happen their own country citizens will start to live in fear and this also give a rise the crime.

These are few examples by which I wanted to express my point.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both cultural and environmental impacts. However, the position is not clearly stated in the introduction, and the development of ideas is inconsistent. The example regarding the crime in Thailand is quite extreme and somewhat disconnected from the broader discussion of tourism's environmental impact, which is usually associated with pollution or habitat destruction. The argument lacks a balanced perspective or a clear conclusion, meaning the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you state your position clearly in the introduction and provide more relevant, well-developed arguments for both sides of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. Paragraphing is used, but the transitions between ideas are abrupt and sometimes confusing. For instance, the jump from cultural dress codes to public affection and then to environmental issues feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused (e.g., 'Now let's come to environment'). The logical progression of ideas is weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. Using more sophisticated linking words and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme would significantly improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'most fastest' (a double superlative), 'host tourist' instead of 'host tourists', and 'alien' to describe a tourist. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations and using more academic vocabulary related to tourism, such as 'socio-cultural impact', 'environmental degradation', or 'economic benefits'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('it have started', 'tourist go'), incorrect verb forms ('try to copy', 'will not year same dress'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. The use of 'most fastest' is a significant error. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for common errors like these is essential.
