Student answer (Band 6.0)
Tourism is included among those industries, which are growing very fast. I totally agree with the view that though this industry plays a significant role in the world economy, it's contribution to the damage to local cultures and the environment is overlooked sometimes. The cultural mix-up and the adverse effect of large amount of people visiting a country are the side effects of tourism.
Tourism is one of the largest sector of a country's economy. People come from all over the world come to visit the beautiful places of a country. The local culture sometimes get destroyed in this process. Authorities sometimes destroy the local culture in order to adopt a modern international culture to accommodate the international community and this destroy the local language and culture.
To make additional space for the tourists, forests are being cut down. The local biodiversity and ecology gets affected by this. In Amazon forest, many species became extinct because of the reduced forest area to accommodate the growing tourist volume. Same pattern observed in the Sundarbans also, as hotels and cottages were constructed to provide accommodation to the visiting tourists. The extra pressure exerted on the environment to supply the necessary resources like food and water, the environment loss the balance sometimes. For cities, land space is very scarce, so people cut down trees to make space.
In spite of being good for economy, tourism has some serious drawbacks too. Those demerits can be minimized, if proper actions could be taken by the authority. Proper planning can save the native culture as well as the environment without diminishing tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position of agreement with the idea that tourism causes cultural and environmental damage. The ideas are relevant and supported by specific examples, such as the Amazon forest and the Sundarbans. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the environmental impact is well-illustrated, the discussion on cultural damage is less detailed and relies on generalisations. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the cultural aspect with more specific evidence or a more nuanced explanation of how 'modern international culture' specifically displaces local traditions. Overall, the position is clear and maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. There is a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In spite of', 'However', and 'For cities', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing (e.g., 'local culture' is repeated frequently within the second paragraph). Improving the variety of linking words and using more sophisticated referencing would enhance the flow and cohesion of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'biodiversity', 'ecology', and 'extinct'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cultural mix-up' (which is informal) and 'the environment loss the balance' (should be 'loses'). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but to achieve a higher score, you should aim for more precise and sophisticated vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing and to demonstrate a better grasp of academic style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The local culture sometimes get destroyed' should be 'gets') and incorrect verb forms ('the environment loss the balance' should be 'loses'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve your accuracy.
