Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position on the negative impacts of tourism while acknowledging its economic benefits. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the impact on 'traditional languages' and 'habitats', are somewhat generalised and could benefit from more specific examples or deeper explanation. The structure is logical, and the position is maintained throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully developed with concrete evidence or a more detailed explanation of the causal link between tourism and the identified cultural or environmental damage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'Summing up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Following this' and 'To elaborate to this'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be improved by ensuring that each sentence builds more naturally upon the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fatest cultivating thing' and 'compliance someone'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'commercialization', 'industrialization', and 'overcrowding', the overall range is somewhat limited. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'largly', 'Futhermore', and 'imcrease', which occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms ('some people are not believe'), prepositions ('damage to local cultures'), and article usage. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'more tourists can more waste and pollution', which lacks a verb. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the argument. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the score.
