Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the economic benefits and the negative impacts of tourism. A position is established in the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The example regarding the US lady visiting India is vague and does not strongly support the argument about economic growth. Similarly, the discussion on environmental damage is repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-reasoned arguments and ensure that examples directly illustrate the points being made rather than just describing a scenario.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Moving toward the second statement'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more cohesive argument. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more sophisticated linking to ensure a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'made their space in the economy' instead of 'gained a significant position' and 'architects' when referring to 'architecture' or 'monuments'. Some phrases are repetitive, such as 'ruined' and 'beauty of the place'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of tourism and economic impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('a lady come to India', 'it become popular'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. For instance, 'tourism made their space' should be 'tourism has made its space'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve your score.
