Tourism has become one of the fastest-growing industries in the world and plays an important role in improving many countries’ economies. However, I strongly agree that the negative effects of tourism on local cultures and the environment are often ignored.

On the one hand, tourism creates many benefits. It provides employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, transport, and local businesses. It also brings foreign currency and helps governments improve infrastructure such as roads, airports, and public services. For example, many countries depend heavily on tourism to support their economic growth and create jobs for local people.

On the other hand, the rapid growth of tourism can seriously damage local traditions and the natural environment. In many popular tourist destinations, traditional customs are changing because local people adapt their lifestyles to satisfy visitors. Moreover, large numbers of tourists produce waste, pollute beaches and rivers, and put pressure on wildlife and natural resources. For instance, famous mountain trails often become crowded with plastic bottles and other rubbish left by visitors, harming the beauty of these places.

In my opinion, economic development should not come at the cost of culture and nature. Governments should introduce stricter environmental laws, limit the number of visitors in sensitive areas, and encourage responsible tourism. Tourists should also respect local customs and avoid activities that damage the environment.

In conclusion, although tourism brings significant economic advantages, I believe its harmful effects on local cultures and the environment are frequently overlooked. Therefore, governments, businesses, and tourists must work together to ensure that tourism develops in a sustainable and responsible way.here are lots

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The arguments regarding economic benefits versus environmental and cultural degradation are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of mountain trails and infrastructure development. The conclusion effectively summarises your stance and provides a forward-looking suggestion. The ideas are logically extended, and the response is balanced, covering both sides of the argument as required by the 'to what extent' instruction.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between the economic benefits and the negative impacts is smooth, using appropriate cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is clear, and the use of linking words such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Therefore' helps guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct points, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic essay. Phrases like 'employment opportunities', 'foreign currency', 'economic development', and 'sustainable and responsible way' are used accurately. There is an attempt to use less common items, and the word choice is generally precise. While the vocabulary is sufficient and effective, it could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the highest band, but it is certainly well-suited for the task and conveys your meaning clearly without any noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The essay displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses and relative clauses (e.g., 'although tourism brings significant economic advantages, I believe...'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and grammar is strong. There are no significant errors that impede communication. The flow is natural, and the grammatical structures used are appropriate for the academic tone required in Task 2.
