Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the negative impacts of tourism and its economic benefits. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement (197 words), which severely limits the depth of the argument. While the position is clear, the ideas are not fully developed; for instance, the discussion on cultural impact is brief and lacks specific examples. Because the response fails to meet the length requirement and lacks the necessary depth for an academic essay, it cannot reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into three clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from environmental concerns to cultural impacts, followed by a counter-argument. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, the transitions are somewhat mechanical, and the overall structure is quite basic. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the lack of length prevents the development of more sophisticated cohesive links between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There are several spelling errors, such as 'verry', 'there' (instead of 'their'), 'visitores', 'croweded', 'enjoye', 'theire', 'torism', 'employement', and 'historoical'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While the student uses some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'natural habitats', 'commercial', and 'economic benefits', the overall lexical range is limited and repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Examples include 'a large number of tourism can produce' (incorrect noun usage), 'visitor leave' (subject-verb agreement), 'changing there traditional' (incorrect word form), and 'tourist should not be stopped, but it should be managed responsibility' (adverb/adjective confusion). These errors are persistent throughout the text, though they do not completely impede communication.
