Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism industries is rapidly scaling to become one of the fastest growing industries and generates a massive contribution to economies all over the world. However, it can cause damage to local cultures and the environment, which is often ignored. I agree to the statement about the concern for environment but feel that local cultures benefit more and inspire the tourists visiting their areas.

In today's era, where stress and anxiety have become the part and parcel of one's life, travelling is a real stressbuster. While travelling, one just totally forgets his normal life and enjoys the moment. This is why the tourism industry is growing really fast. On one hand, the tourism industry is contributing generously to a country's economy. For example, numerous jobs are being created for tourist guides and local people. On the other hand, the environment is facing the consequences. For example, people throwing garbage containing plastic on the ground, which is non-biodegradable or increase in carbon emissions from accelerating percentage of tourist vehicles.

Talking about local cultures, they are one of the main attractions of tourism. A tourist is really keen in exploring different cultures and languages. As a result, local people get to represent their cultures, leaving a long lasting impression on tourists, while also benefitting economically. For example, Rajasthan is a famous tourist spot for its unique dance form and culture.

In conclusion, I feel that just like a coin has two sides, similarly, tourism has its advantages and disadvantages. It should be the duty of the tourists to totally respect the place and culture they are visiting. They should be wary of their actions including disposing garbage correctly or using public transportation benefitting the environment and future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position. You acknowledge the environmental concerns while offering a nuanced view on cultural benefits. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the economic benefits and environmental damage are mentioned, the discussion on cultural impact is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides more depth, perhaps by explaining the 'how' and 'why' of the cultural benefits more thoroughly. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance and provides a relevant suggestion for mitigation, which strengthens the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'As a result' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the general benefits of travel and the specific economic impact could be smoother. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the main argument to improve the flow of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'non-biodegradable,' 'carbon emissions,' and 'stressbuster.' There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'Tourism industries is' (should be 'The tourism industry is') and 'accelerating percentage of tourist vehicles' (which is slightly unnatural). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more sophisticated, less common lexical items would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as subject-verb agreement errors ('Tourism industries is') and minor punctuation or article usage issues. Some sentences, like 'A tourist is really keen in exploring,' would be more natural as 'A tourist is really keen on exploring.' The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and preposition usage to ensure greater accuracy.
