Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely believed that many industries are contributing to the economies of their countries by expanding businesses to international markets and toursim is one of them, while others claim that the cause it brings with them to the environment and local cultures is often being ignored. I strongly agree with this statement mainly because visiting different nations and the cultures may helps to undertsand the lifestyle of people and exploring the nature can develop inner peace.

On the one hand, Toursim is playing an essential role for creating an opportunities, which will be a positive development. Moreover, more tourist brings several cultural values and some funding which they will spend in various sectors of the country. For instance, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and many more are under-developed countries and they are totally dependent on tourism as it helps to boost their economies. As a result, the more visitors spend money and make content by visiting breathtaking sites in the country, the more tousirst they can attract to visit these countries.

On the other hand, Although toursim is an important department of any countries but it is very necessary to respect the culture of local communities. Likewise, they do not follows the public rules which are set by the government to clean the environment and make sure to maintain the integrity of the soceity, because they have been in these areas for many years. For example, some tourist do not put trash into dedicated trash-bin to retain the cleaness of the nature and the local prople could not tolerate with this behaviour.

To sum up, However, tourism is necessary for every country, while maintaining the ethics and respect could be a important part too. Therefore, I believe that government should need to introduce more strict rules and penalties to encourage the tourist to explore nature with some good manners.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that agrees with the statement. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits for developing nations and the environmental/cultural impact of tourism. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the negative impacts is slightly repetitive and lacks specific, well-explained examples beyond general statements about trash. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit confusing in its phrasing, which slightly obscures the clarity of the initial position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as the use of 'However' at the start of the conclusion, which contradicts the preceding summary. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where 'they' is used to refer to tourists, but the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'under-developed countries', 'integrity of the society', and 'breathtaking sites'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'make content' instead of 'are satisfied' or 'department of any countries' instead of 'sector of any country'. Spelling errors like 'toursim', 'tousirst', and 'cleaness' are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not significantly impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'the cultures may helps to undertsand' (subject-verb agreement) and 'they do not follows' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries and comma usage. The frequency of errors in basic grammar—specifically verb forms and pluralization—is consistent throughout the text. While the meaning remains clear, the high density of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for grammatical accuracy.
