Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the economic benefits and the negative impacts of tourism. A position is established in the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding cultural identity is mentioned but lacks specific, well-supported examples, relying on general statements about tourists' clothing. While the task is addressed, the ideas could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, but the analysis remains at a basic level, which limits the depth of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Firstly', 'However', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To explicit' or 'As of this'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the economic benefits from the environmental and cultural drawbacks, which helps the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific language like 'economic growth', 'cultural identity', and 'detrimental impact'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'increasing industries', 'do shopping', and 'allocate money on their daily bases needs'. Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'previous buildings' instead of 'historical sites'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of precision and the presence of errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('tourist may also damage', 'they not have knowledge'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the overall quality of the writing.
