Student answer (Band 5.0)

Tourism is one of the growing industry all around the world. It boost the economy in many aspects. Some places around the wold like Maldives, Nepal are fully dependent on the tourism. But there has other side of the coin. Tourism can cost the local cultures and environment and I agree with this. The tousim guide is often ignored and tourist may breaks the rules of locals, which may led to clashes between them and this can cost loss to the local peoples of that spot. Sometimes unknowingly or intentionally they pollutes the environment by throwing wastes. So, loss of proper guidence while tour can cause the damage to local cultures and the environment.

The most visited tourist spot in Bangladesh is Cox's Bazar. Everyday the thousands of people visited there. But the waste management in the sea beach quit underrated. From my experience, I have seen that many tourist threw polyethenes, plastics bottle in the sea which pollutes the environment.

My another bitter experience has gained while visiting the Bandarbans- hill side of Bangladesh. A lot of ethnic people live here. In the name of tourism, the powerful groups wipe out them and makes resorts in the hill. This also disrupts the natural flow of water in the hilly area. Another point is- while visiting the tourists, often disturbs the local ethnic peoples, sometimes they uses slangs against them, sometimes they took pictures without consent. These leds to clashes between the tourists and the local community there. These are the scenerios from my experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that tourism causes damage to culture and the environment. While the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The essay provides relevant examples from Bangladesh, such as waste management at Cox's Bazar and the displacement of ethnic groups in Bandarban. However, the analysis remains quite descriptive rather than analytical. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of these issues, perhaps discussing the long-term socio-economic implications or potential solutions. The conclusion is also missing, which is a key component of a well-structured academic essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and the flow of ideas is somewhat mechanical. For instance, the transition between the general introduction and the specific examples in the second paragraph could be smoother. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the use of linking words is minimal. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') to connect your arguments more effectively and ensure the reader can follow your line of reasoning without effort.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'tousim guide is often ignored' (likely meaning 'guidance') and 'quit underrated' (meaning 'quite'). The use of 'slangs' is also grammatically incorrect as 'slang' is an uncountable noun. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'ethnic people' and 'waste management', the overall range is limited. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and precise terminology would significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('tourist may breaks', 'they uses', 'they took'), article usage ('the tourism', 'the sea beach'), and pluralisation ('the thousands of people'). Additionally, there are errors in tense consistency and word formation ('leds' instead of 'leads'). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
