Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, with the first body paragraph focusing on economic benefits and the second on environmental and cultural drawbacks. While the arguments are logical, they could be further developed with more specific analysis rather than just listing examples. For instance, the mention of 'Goa and Rajasthan' is a good start, but explaining exactly how these regions balance growth and damage would strengthen the response. Overall, the position is clear and the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'moreover', 'On the flip side', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation and spacing, such as 'howeverits' and 't strongly believe'. While the progression of ideas is clear, the flow is occasionally interrupted by these mechanical errors, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'sustainable tourism', 'deforestation', and 'natural habitats'. However, there are several spelling errors ('countributes', 'largle', 'excssive', 'harmfullimpact', 'habbitats', 'mantained') and minor word choice inaccuracies ('provide huge amount of waste' instead of 'generate'). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the frequency of spelling mistakes and the lack of more sophisticated, precise vocabulary limit the score. Improving accuracy in spelling and collocation would significantly enhance this section.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('on environment'), subject-verb agreement issues ('tourism provide', 'destinations... which attracts'), and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, although they do not impede overall communication. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and article usage.
