Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the prompt effectively. The student repeatedly copies the prompt's phrase 'the damage tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often ignored' as if it were a noun or a concept, rather than discussing the actual topic of tourism's impact. The essay lacks a clear position on the extent of agreement or disagreement regarding tourism's negative effects. Instead, the content is generic, repetitive, and disconnected from the specific subject matter. The ideas are not developed, and the response does not provide relevant examples or logical arguments related to the tourism industry. Consequently, the response is largely off-topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

While the essay is divided into paragraphs, the internal logic is severely lacking. The use of cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Hence' is mechanical and does not serve to connect meaningful ideas, as the sentences themselves do not form a coherent argument. The referencing is confusing because the student treats the entire prompt sentence as a subject, leading to a lack of progression. The flow of ideas is disjointed, and the overall structure does not support a clear line of reasoning, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended message.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is repetitive and often used incorrectly. The student relies heavily on copying the prompt, which suggests a limited ability to paraphrase or express ideas in their own words. Phrases like 'myriad of concerns' and 'plethora of advantages' are used in a way that feels memorized rather than integrated into a natural context. There are significant issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'do not entirely accepted' (grammar/lexical error) and 'too goo to ignore' (spelling error). The range is insufficient to convey complex ideas accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Examples include 'in today world' (missing possessive), 'I do not entirely accepted' (incorrect verb form), and 'it's development' (confusing possessive 'its' with contraction 'it is'). Sentence structures are often awkward or incomplete, and there is a lack of control over basic syntax. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, these are frequently faulty, leading to confusion. The high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
