Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and the negative impacts of tourism. However, the position is somewhat balanced rather than clearly argued, and the development of ideas is limited. While you mention economic benefits and environmental damage, the arguments remain quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, analytical examples rather than listing general observations. For instance, instead of just mentioning 'mountains and lakes', explain how specific types of tourism (e.g., trekking or mass tourism) directly impact local infrastructure or cultural integrity. The conclusion provides a clear summary, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for pros and cons, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Our country is...' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel a bit simplistic. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'notwithstanding') to connect your ideas more fluidly and reduce the reliance on basic sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You rely on basic terms like 'best', 'good', and 'many'. There are also some awkward collocations and word-choice errors, such as 'economic system' instead of 'economy' and 'tourist industries' (plural) when referring to the sector as a whole. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to tourism and environmental impact. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tourist come' instead of 'tourists come'), incorrect use of articles ('the tourist industry'), and awkward phrasing ('very coin has it is two side'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with apostrophes (e.g., 'it's' used for possessive 'its'). While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, especially pluralization and possessive forms.
