Student answer (Band 6.0)

The most dramatically increasing industry is tourism in these days and it plays a vital role in economies in almost all the countries around the world. But tourism has also adverse affects on countries like it causing harm to cultures and environment of that countries. I strongly agree with this statement because tourism changes the language , traditions of that places and also add pollution to its natural wilderness.

The brief reason of my agreement is, at tourist places, people comes from different cultures and countries. They speaks different languages, so it can cause effect on language of that place after math it effects its cultures as well. For instance, at tourist place their original language was Urdu, so when tourist come from different languages, here people prefer to speak in English so that they can understand easily to each other, as a result, English language start taking place of Urdu, which directly effect its culture. Furthermore, at regularly visited place, there is high chances of increase pollution which will definitely effect its local people as well as natural habitat.

However, some people believe that it is a positive development, because they think that ,more revenue will be produced by visitors when they visit most. More foreign currency will come to its country , at a result , they grow economically. For example. In Nepal, people have opened the shops the mountain climbing helping equipment which a major source of earning for local people.

To summarize, I consider ,tourism cause negative effects on specific place or a country. I definitely alter its culture as well as environment. So governments should have limits on it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding cultural erosion and environmental damage are relevant, and the counter-argument regarding economic benefits is acknowledged. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the example of Urdu being replaced by English is a good start but lacks depth in explaining the broader socio-cultural implications. The conclusion is brief and could have been more effectively linked to the main body paragraphs to provide a more comprehensive summary of the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'To summarize', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'after math it effects its cultures'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'adverse affects' (note: should be 'effects') and 'natural wilderness'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'after math' instead of 'afterwards' or 'consequently', and 'at regularly visited place' instead of 'in frequently visited areas'. These errors do not impede communication but demonstrate a limited range and lack of precision in academic register.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people comes', 'tourist come'), article usage ('at tourist place'), and word forms ('it causing harm'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas appearing throughout the text. While the student attempts complex sentences, these are often marred by errors that, while not preventing understanding, occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
