Student answer (Band 5.0)

In modern society, tourism is developing at a rate of knots and help the economies to grow around the world. Moreover, By tourism atmosphere and traditional culture is ignored many times.

To commence with, there is not any objection that tourism is growing at a reasonable rate and that was good for the economy and for the tourist places. As well as good for the local economy like shops, local market and many others. Tourism can influence individuals about many popular places to have a great weekend, birthday, wedding and many other special occasions. By which government can earn money and make development of that area

By moving ahead on disadvantages, It is for real that by tourism the culture of the place and ambiance will be ignored, So to ignore this firstly people should learn civic sense and it is responsibility of government also to maintain the ambiance of the place. because it is not the responsibility of a single person. It is responsibility of all the department and tourists. because there are both pros and cons of a thing.

In conclusion, I totally agree with that. Because by increasing tourism it is good for the development of the place and good for the peoples also as it can cause more employment for the people and if we discuss about culture and environment. So if a thing has some benefit so it will have some problems also. But we can make a balance of both things. so it can not affect a lot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the economic benefits and the negative impacts of tourism. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that tourism helps the economy, the explanation is repetitive and lacks specific examples or depth. The discussion on cultural and environmental damage is vague, relying on general statements like 'people should learn civic sense' rather than exploring the specific mechanisms of damage or mitigation. To improve, you need to provide concrete examples (e.g., the impact of mass tourism on historical sites or local traditions) to support your arguments more effectively and ensure your position is consistently clear throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Transitions are often mechanical or misused, such as 'By moving ahead on disadvantages' and 'To commence with'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive, which disrupts the flow of ideas. For instance, the conclusion repeats points already made without synthesising them effectively. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to your overall position.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive. Phrases like 'rate of knots' are used incorrectly in this context, and there is a reliance on simple, everyday language. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'by tourism atmosphere... is ignored' and 'make development of that area'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'economic growth', 'cultural erosion', 'environmental degradation', and 'sustainable tourism'. Expanding your range of synonyms and learning how to use them in correct collocations will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('tourism... help the economies'), article usage ('by tourism atmosphere'), and sentence structure (many sentences are fragments or run-on sentences). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralisation. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring that your punctuation is accurate to avoid run-on sentences.
