Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear stance agreeing that tourism causes hidden damage to the environment and local cultures. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Main ideas are presented and supported with relevant examples, such as popular beaches becoming polluted and traditional festivals changing into commercial shows for tourists. However, some arguments lack deep extension, and the conclusion introduces a new point about economic growth that was not thoroughly explored in the main body paragraphs. Nevertheless, the response covers the requirements well, fitting comfortably into the Band 6 or 7 range for Task Achievement. Because the ideas are relevant and supported with valid examples, a band score of 6.5 is appropriate, as all parts are addressed with a clear position, though some ideas tend to over-generalise.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'To elaborate further', and 'To recapitulate', though some phrases sound slightly unnatural or mechanical. Referencing and logical progression are generally clear, enabling the reader to follow the writer's arguments without significant confusion. However, occasional awkward transitions and minor cohesion issues prevent the text from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organization is logical and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 performance under Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'commercial', 'uncontrolled tourism', and 'traditional lifestyle'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'contributes a excellent fund', 'throw dust in nearby area', 'individuals has not understading', and 'take considerably steps'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'eassy', 'impace', 'toursim', and 'polluts'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication. These characteristics align well with the Band 6 descriptor for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'When many tourists visit a place, local people may change their traditional lifestyle...' However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals has not understading', 'toursim place signficant role'), article misuse ('helps to contributes a excellent fund'), and punctuation spacing errors. While these errors occur frequently and affect readability, the meaning is generally recoverable and communication is rarely impeded entirely. This performance sits securely at Band 5.5, reflecting a mix of sentence types alongside persistent grammatical inaccuracies.
