Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing the economic benefits of tourism against the negative impacts on culture and environment. However, the development of ideas is severely limited and often confused. Phrases such as 'former nation' to describe a viewpoint show a misunderstanding of vocabulary and task requirements. While a position is stated, the arguments are repetitive, lack logical support, and frequently drift into unrelated claims, such as improving 'practical skills' or living standards, without clearly establishing a cohesive position on the extent of agreement. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, placing this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs with basic structural markers such as 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inappropriately, as seen in repetitive phrasing between paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph coherence is lacking due to disconnected sentences and frequent non-sequiturs. Referencing pronouns like 'they' often lacks clear antecedents, causing confusion for the reader. These issues indicate a level consistent with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, with frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations that impede understanding. Examples include 'rapid growing enterprises', 'donate a best deal', 'economic boos', and 'pressure cultural diversion'. Spelling errors such as 'comfoprtable' and word form errors occur throughout the text. While the student attempts less common items, the misuse of these words severely restricts the precision and natural flow of the writing, reflecting the descriptors for Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are consistently faulty and grammatically flawed, such as 'if the tourism come to explore new places and they boost the economic growth'. Errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and articles are frequent throughout the text, including 'tourism are arriving' and 'the rapid growing company'. These persistent errors cause frequent strain and difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 4.0 descriptors.
